Entrepreneurship can foster and promote economic growth and social development in mountain less favoured areas, particularly in conditions of economic depression. Nevertheless, the study of entrepreneurship in mountain areas is still at an early stage. The present study examines the Pogoni Municipality’s components of entrepreneurial environment. Through in-depth interviews, the influence exerted by the natural and social environment of mountain regions on entrepreneurship, the special motivations and pursuits of entrepreneurs, and the problems and opportunities, are highlighted. Finally, measures towards improving the entrepreneurial environment are proposed.
