Abstract

The new and innovative trend of tourism industry, m-tourism, has brought a small revolution in the field. As the amount of applications is increasing, so does the number of consumers that tend to consult such services in order to improve their tourism experience. In the present paper the use of mobile technologies as a tool of tourism development in Zagori is examined. Mountainous areas are characterized by special conditions that must be carefully studied before any form of technology can be applied efficiently. In our analysis, the value of worldwide applications as advertising and promoting factors is considered. However, we argue that the implementation of existing solutions to Hellenic mountain regions is ineffective. In this line of thinking, by taking into account the special attributes of the region, the standards and the structure of a standalone application for Zagori offering essential electronic services to the tourists is presented.
